  2. Directions: Read each sentence carefully. Place a “CS” at the end of each comma splice, an “RO” at the end of each run-on sentence, and a “C” at the end of each correct sentence. Then correct the faulty sentence. The first three sentences are done for you. • The forecast sounded a warning of very high temperatures. C • Still, it looked like a great day for swimming, we headed for the beach. CS • Still, it looked like a great day for swimming, and we headed for the beach. • By noon the heat was intense we needed to come in out of the sun. RO • By noon the heat was intense, so we needed to come in out of the sun. • It was the perfect time to go for a ride in our air-conditioned car we decided to look for an ice-cream stand. • My mother loves the cooler temperatures air-conditioning produces. • The searing afternoon sun seemed ready to scorch everything in sight we had come prepared with three bottles of sunscreen.

  3. I didn’t want to get a sunburn I remembered the pain that I had experienced the last time it happened. • We all brought along our beach hats the cool breeze from the water also kept us from overheating. • We had played it smart we were very happy about that fact. • My brother says sledding is more fun than anything, I say water slides are better. • Anyway, I think it is ridiculous to think about sledding on a 90 degrees day. • When it’s hot, I think about swimming that’s all I think about. • It is sure to be hot again, we can count on that. • I never complain about the weather I just enjoy it. • After all, we can’t change the weather.

  4. Utopia Project • You will be presenting your final Utopia Project in the form of a Power Point presentation. • This presentation should include at least 12 slides, each covering the topics on your handout. • Each person in your group must participate, meaning each person will be responsible for creating slides to go into your Power Point. (Each member should place his or her name on the bottom of the slide that he or she creates.) • You may include any additional information on your slides that you feel will help the class understand your group’s utopia better. • In addition to your Power Point, you may wish to include another visual, such as a drawing of your utopian community. Additional material is not required, but if you choose to incorporate extra material into your presentation, please make sure it is quality material. (don’t just draw your utopia on a piece of notebook paper!)
