  2. STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS FundraisinG Did You Know? In 1992 the future site for a library was little more than a hillside of rocks when Jean “Janet” and W. Keith Kellogg II of Rancho Santa Fe pledged to help CSUSM build a permanent library on campus. The Kellogg’s gave over $6.4M to the university over the years, including $1M in 1996 toward construction of the Kellogg Library. The size of their first gift to CSUSM in 1992? $300

  3. STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS FundraisinG Did You Know? Created in 1995, this endowed scholarship is awarded every year to six entering freshman who demonstrate financial need, each receiving $1,500. Awards may be renewed up to three additional years if students meet renewal criteria. What is the name of this scholarship? The Ella J. Thedinga Scholarship $864,000

For ten years, the building also served as the first student union on campus until the University Student Union opened in 2014. What is the name of this building? The M. Founded in 2011, the Student Philanthropy Council, a student committee focused on educating CSUSM students about philanthropy and raising money, helped raise $20,886 just last year. The 639 donor gifts were designated to the Student Philanthropy Endowed Scholarship. Who were 97% of the donors? CSUSM Students

Why People Give To be involved with a project or cause and feel like their gift made a difference. Acknowledging gifts and following up with information about what was accomplished is key to sustained success.

  11. STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS Fundraising After Approval 4. Start Asking • Take gifts to the Cashier's Office with the deposit form provided to you by ASI.  If product is donated, offer a Gift-in-Kind (GIK) form. • Thank your donors immediately. • Contact your donors again after utilizing funds.
