  3. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the QuIIN, a network of practicing pediatricians and their staff, is to improve care and outcomes for children and families by testing practical tools, measures, and strategies for use in everyday pediatric practice, the child's medical home.

  4. Why an Improvement Network? • Multiple AAP evidence-based guidelines developed • For most part, these have not become standard practice • Institute of Medicine (IOM) Statistics • Avg 17 yr lag between effective forms of treatment and their incorporation into routine patient care (Balas, 2001; IOM, 2003) • AAP Periodic Survey #37 • 77% of pediatricians think it’s important that AAP promote QI by providing materials to implement practice guidelines and pediatric outcomes • AAP Successful QI Projects • ADHD Implementation Project – Toolkit & EQIPP Module • Bright Futures Training Intervention – Facilitators Guide & Toolkit

  5. Why an Improvement Network? QuIIN formed to: • Provide pediatricians with tested tools and strategies to implement guidelines into their practices • Provide a standard mechanism for testing these tools and strategies • Provide a pediatric lab for testing new ideas before dissemination

Who is QuIIN? • 9 Member Physician Steering Committee • Medical Director, Steven Kairys, MD, FAAP • Chairperson, Chris Cunha, MD, FAAP • Practicing Clinicians with Quality Improvement Experience • 2 QuIIN Staff • QI Network Members • Practicing clinicians and their staffs • Experience or interest in QI • Involve innovators and early adopter clinicians

Levels of QuIIN Projects • Improvement Projects • Tests tools, other based on AAP CPG or other evidence-based material • Project Design • Uses IHI Model (aims, measures,rapid cycle testing, learning collaborative) • Follows QI methodology designed by ABP for Maintenance of Certification Part 4 Approval • Team Approach towards Improvement • Lead physician & staff team participate • 6-18 months of Testing • Baseline, Intervention, Plan Do Study Act • Feasibility Projects • Determine feasibility of tool/innovation in practice • Single Physician and/or Office Staff Input • No Testing Conducted • Survey and/or informal feedback • Brief data collection period (weeks/2-3 months)
