  11. ADVICE TO STUDENTS ABOUT MAKING CHOICES

  12. Choose a subject just because your friend chooses it. It is your choice. Even if you do choose the same subjects as your friend there is no guarantee that you will be in the same group. Reject a subject because you have not done it before, or you have never heard of it. You may be surprised how interesting it is when you find out more about it. Choose a subject because you like a teacher or reject a subject because you don’t like a teacher. You will not know which teacher will be teaching your group. Even the teachers themselves do not know which groups they will be taking at this stage. Anyway, what if they leave?! Reject a subject because you think it is a boys only or a girls only subject. There are no boys only or girls only subjects. Reject a subject because you do not like it. You may be closing the door on aparticularcareer. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT

  13. Find out about the new subjects. Read about them in the Options Booklet. Ask your tutor about them. You may be surprised how interesting they sound. Check with Mrs Arai in the library - she really does know everything….. or knows a man/woman that does! Talk to your subject teacher, your tutor, college support staff, whenever you are unsure about something. TALK TO YOUR PARENTS – just occasionally they do know what they are talking about!!
