GirlUp Uniting girls to change the world.
Presentation Overview • THE CHALLENGE • THE SOLUTION • YOUR ROLE 1
DID YOU KNOW? Girls spend up to 15 hours each day obtaining water for their families and communities. Medical complications from pregnancy are the leading cause of death among girls ages 15-19 worldwide. Girls make up more than half of the 143 million out-of-school children and youth. Less than two cents of every development dollar goes to programs for girls, particularly those 10-14. 4
SESUAGNO’S STORY SesuagnoMola lives in a small village one hour outside of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. She was married at five years old and had to leave her family. She had her first child when she was 14. Instead of being able to go to school, she became a statistic. 5 PHOTO: Participant in the BerhaneHewan program in Ethiopia.
