  3. Antarctica is the highest, driest, windiest, emptiest, coldest place on earth.

  4. There are lots of penguins, whales, seals, krill (the main food for whales), and even fish in Antarctica's waters, but there are no land mammals and, as far as scientists know, no native peoples.

  5. The area below 60 degrees south enjoys one long day and one long night each year. The sun sets in March and rises in October.

  6. Plants grow in Antarctica in ice-free regions (only about 2 percent of the continent is ice-free).

  7. Ice melts!...

  8. The Global Warming throughout the world has led to the ice melts in ANTARCTICA.

  9. The ozone hole {caused by CFC} is formed over ANTARCTICA which is due to the activities of the developed countries {that use maximum CFC}……….

  10. ….This is because Extreme cold and 6-month darkness over Antarctica all provide ideal conditions for chlorine to break from the CFCs. The chlorine gases destroy the ozone during spring (Sept to Dec) and this is what causes the ozone hole.

  11. For 20 years satellites have been monitoring earth's biggest ice shields in the Antarctic, using different technologies from radar to gravity measurements.

  12. The polar regions are important drivers of the world's climate. When the "everlasting ice" melts at an increasing rate, the rest of the world is affected.

  15. A photograph of polar bears clinging on to a melting iceberg has become one of the most enduring images in the campaign against climate change. IMPACT

  16. It seems unthinkable as man's flirtation with nature, though for scientific research purposes, is paving way to global warming and seems to have cast its shadow on the icy lands as well. The summer ice melt in parts of Antarctica is at its highest level in 1,000 years.
