Career Exploration – Job Shadowing and More Job Shadowing: In FY06, 13,152 students job shadowed with 2,462 employers. Other Career Exploration Activities: * Career Days* Career Fairs* Guest Speaker Programs* Interest Inventories* Rotations* And more
Career Exploration – Construction Career Days One of the largest statewide career exploration days is Construction Career Days, attended by over 4,000 students over the past four years.
Construction Career Days – Measuring impact In pre-program and post-program surveys, students indicated that they were clearer about their career goals and knew more about construction and engineering opportunities after the event. When asked, pre and post-program, what fields interested them, 52% indicated new fields after the event, while others kept the same choices, both of which are good “career exploration” outcomes. New choices included machine operating (15%) and engineering fields (11%).
Construction Career Days – Exploring and Solidifying Career Goals
Jobs and Internships In FY06, 12,612 students were placed in brokered internships with 5,610 employers. 10,368 participating students had a Work- Based Learning Plan. Employers were the source of $36,804,581 in wages. So far in FY07, as of the end of the third quarter, 14,100 students were placed in brokered internships with 5,062 employers.
Measurement of Skill Gains The Work-Based Learning Plan provides data that can be used to analyze skill gains made through jobs and internships.

Teacher Externships During FY06, 490 teachers participated in externships. Outcomes: * New classroom activities * Career connections in the classroom
Connections With Academics596/597 Work & Learning Programs During FY07, approximately 2,034 students are eligible to be served in the 22 “596/597 Work and Learning” programs. Outcomes: In the FY06 program, 704 students were served, receiving an average of 44.79 hours of instruction each. 56.1% of participants had passed MCAS, as of the March 2006 retest.
Connections With Academics627/626 One Stop Career Center Programs From FY03 through FY06, 2,115 individuals from the classes of 2003-2006 have participated in the program. Outcomes: * 1,215 (53.4%) have passed MCAS* 498 have been tracked as “positive placements,” having entered employment or postsecondary education or having remained in high school.
