Mirroring ACT testing conditions • Clear desk surface • Face same direction • Appropriate spacing • Exact timing • Limited distractions • Proctor attentiveness
Attentiveness During Testing • Walk around room • Discourage prohibited behavior • Answer questions • Must not... • Grade papers • Read books
Standardized Procedures • Faculty Instructions Booklet • Please read and follow the instructions outlined. • For the exam, please read the instructions verbatim.
Test Day • Room supervisors arrival • School day is from 7:00-3:00! • Pick up of materials in the Mod. Lang. Office beginning at 6:45 • Last-minute details • Hand-delivery of test materials • “Chain of custody” • Double-check counts
Admitting Examinees • Check ID’s and mark rosters • Assign seats • Assistants will come around to collect Attendance rosters between 7:40-7:45.
Exact timing of tests • Be sure to adhere to the testing time schedule. • Remind students of 5-minutes remaining for each section and keep accurate stop times.
Individual irregularities • Prohibited behaviors • Creating disturbance • Giving/receiving help • Previous test section • Beyond time • Calculator issues
Test day schedule • Start Time 7:35 • English 30 minutes • Math 40 minutes • Break 15 minutes • Reading 20 minutes • Science 25 minutes • Writing 40 minutes • Dismissal 11:50
ACT Writing Test Practice • 10:15-10:20 • Description of Test and Directions • 10:20-11:00 • Writing Prompt • Students receive a prompt that defines an issue and two opposing viewpoints • Students respond with their positions: • May choose one of the stated positions • May define their own • Scores are not affected by position taken
Calculator checking • Having an acceptable calculator is ultimately the student’s responsibility • T-I’s are OK! • No “Blackberry” or phone-like devices.
15-Minute Break • Break 9:05 – 9:20 • Remind students to be quiet • If students don’t return on time • Resume testing • No makeup time
After Mirror-PLAN: Day 2 Prep • Set up purpose of Day 2 activity pg 5. • 20 Questions about Life Worksheet • Yes / No Game (if time available). • Remind students to bring pencils and calculators again for day 2!
Day 2! “Real World” • Pick up Day 2 Folders in Mod. Lang. Office. (Will be there 6:45am) • Faculty Instructions Booklet pgs 6-10 • Lifestyle Card Symbol is from Choices WS. • Optional activities: • Education Pays Data (online) • 30 Days on Minimum Wage video. • Please ensure that you can show the video / connect to the projection unit in your assigned classroom.
Group Discussion pg 9 • Lead group discussion. • Have one student/pair share experience for each socioeconomic symbol. • Use articles on college and salaries or the video to support discussion. • Compare student’s goal (original symbol) to performance (adjusted symbol). • Let students re-try activity using their goal symbol. (If time permits.)
Special Notes: • Walk around and check students’ math. Some of the calculations (ex. Savings formula) can be difficult. • If they seem to have too much money left, check that students properly deducted all debt, required and unexpected expenses from both their lifestyle card and their partner/partner card. • If finished early, allow students to re-do the activity to figure out how to better use their money or to see what it’s like to do the activity with a different Lifestyle card.
Post- PSAE ACCESS Activities • Review Explore and Mirror-PLAN scores. • Make a plan for future goals and standardized test achievement. • Career Cluster survey and career options discussion
