Minimum College Requirements • Riverland Community College, RCTC • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 3 years • SCIENCE | 3 years • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years • WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language • Graduate from High School or GED • ACT or SAT test not required. Minimum College Requirements • Seven State Universities who are part of MSCU • Bemidji State, Metropolitan State, Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University, Winona State • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 3 years (recommend 4 years) • SCIENCE | 3 years • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years • WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language • Top 50% of class, Average GPA 3.3 “Selective” • ACT or SAT test • Composite of 21 or higher on ACT 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

World Languages • If you want to attend a 4-year college, keep in mind that 2 years of the same World Language are required by some and recommended by others. • Technical Colleges/2 year community colleges do NOT require a World Language. • A World Language is NOT required to graduate from high school. 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Concurrent Classes with Riverland CC • To qualify for RCC classes your Junior year: • Juniors | Must be in the top 1/3 of your class • (or score in the top 70% on a Nationally, Norm-referenced test) • Seniors |Must be in the top 1/2 of your class • (or score in the top 50% on a Nationally, Norm-referenced test) • Strong Grades • Take the Accuplacer Test • AHS offers 8 RCC college classes & 8 AP Classes • Class rank in the fall of your • sophomore year will determine your eligibility. 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  18. Study Halls • If you currently struggle in your classes and/or are earning grades in the C-D range, or you have a lot of after school commitments please consider… • Taking a study hall. This built-in study time each day will allow you to stay on top of your homework. • Take time to develop good study habits. • No Credit will be earned for a study hall. 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Health Credit: ½ credit of Health Grades: 9th - 12th Prerequisite: NoneTopics include: Wellness, mental health, injury prevention, nutrition, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, & human sexuality Skills taught include : decision-making, refusal, conflict resolution, communication, goal setting, & health literacy This course is required for graduation.

Spanish 1 & French I Students will practice writing reading listening speaking Spanish by: • In-class conversation & activities • Creating & acting out silly stories • Singing Spanish or French songs & grammar chants • Reading Spanish or French stories & books • Studying the geography, food, music, and traditions of Spanish or French-speaking cultures

Spanish 2 Students build on the Spanish acquired in Sp. 1 by adding more vocabulary, verb tenses and grammatical structures • In-class conversation & activities • Creating & acting out bizarre stories • Singing Spanish songs & grammar chants • Reading novels & children’s books • Celebrations with food & music • Studying the geography, food, music, and traditions of Spanish-speaking cultures • Chance to go on Spanish field trips and trip abroad Students continue to practice Spanish by: Listening Speaking reading writing

Your High School Transcript • You MUST pass a class with a D- or higher to receive high school credit! • Your High School transcript starts to accumulate when you enter 9th grade! • Each class passed is worth ½ (0.5)credit • 7 classes = 3 ½ credits each semester 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  44. What if I fail a required course? • You are given an excellent opportunity to pass your classes at AHS. Summer School is your ONLY option for recovering credit lost from failureof a required course. There are two (2) sessions of summer school. 12 days in length. 8:00 – 1:00. Each session is worth ½ (.5)credit. • To be eligible for sports 3 credits need to be completed by end of 1st Semester! • Make 9th grade a great year! 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  45. Athletics at AHS • Austin High School offers the following competitive opportunities: 2018 We are a member of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and the Big 9 Conference. To be eligible to participate in a sport, students must comply with MSHSL as well as specific District rules. Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Eligibility for Athletics AHS • In order to be eligible for sports, you must have accumulated the following credits: • Grade 9: End of 1st semester= 3 credits • Grade 10: Start of year= 6 credits/End of 1st semester=9 credits • Grade 11: Start of year= 12 credits/End of 1st semester= 15 credits • Grade 12: Start of year= 18 credits/End of 1st semester= 21 credits 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Attendance Policy Excused Absences Unexcused Absences • Bring note within two days Tardies • 4 Tardies turn into lunch detention • Loss of Credit – Hold on Grades • No credit in any course where the student exceeds three (3) unexcused absences or exceeds nine (9) absences within a semester. 2018 Class of Empowering all learners for life!
