Fungsi memory • untuk menyimpan data. • Data yang disimpan dalam main-memory bersifat sementara dan jumlahnya sangat kecil • Instruksi atau program, untuk memproses data. • Data yang telah diproses dan menunggu untuk dikirim ke output device, secondary storage atau juga communication device. • Instruksi sistem operasi yang mengontrol fungsi-fungsi dasar dari sistem Komputer.

  4. Bagian-bagian pada RAM • 1.SMT. SMT adalah komponen elektronik penunjang seperti resistor, kapasitor, dsb. • 2.Notch. Merupakan lubang pengunci agar RAM Cuma bisa masuk ke slot yang sesuai. • 3.Pin. Kaki-kaki RAM yg berhubungan (contact) dengan slot Motherboard. • 4.ICs (Integrated Circuit). Komponen elektronik Memory. • 5.Serial Presence Detect (SPD). Sebuah IC kecil penyimpan data konfigurasi dari RAM. • 6.Circuit. Jalur-jalur listrik / data yang menghubungkan item komponen pada RAM.

  5. Cache/ “L1,and L2″

  6. Cache adalah RAM dengan kecepatan tinggi. Cache menyimpan data umum dan intruksi dari processor sehingga Cache tidak perlu melalui RAM dalam proses  pengiriman data. Dan itulah penyebab mengapa modem pada komputer saat ini dapat berjalan dengan sangat cepat.
