This is a drawing of Harry Potter that I made my sophomore year. The project was made up of a summary of the book we read, a drawing of a character from the book, and a map of the setting from the book. The summary of the map was also one of my favorite parts of this project because I got to draw it. The reason I chose this as one of my favorites though is because this was one of the first project that I had really gotten where I could really invest myself in it and one that I was really excited and generally interested in. YEARBOOK SPREAD This is the first yearbook page I made my senior year. Its one of my favorites because I spent a lot of time planning it out since it is the index page. I also love the layout of the page and think that it really sets the stage for the rest of the book.
Above is one of many art projects that I did this past semester. This one happens to be my mixed media project. I had saved up passes from class to class all of my sophomore year just to proved that having trust issues was killing the environment- it was. I decided to then put all the notes on two large canvases that I had painted black. I think created the word “TRUANCY” out of everyday school supplies. The T being made out of rulers, the R out of pencils, the U is made from tape, the N is two sets of scissors, the C is a cutup color wheel, and the Y is three paint brushes. I picked this project because I not only love the arts but every single one of those notes are a memory to me, therefore I will always cherish this project. Art- Mixed Media
Above is a copy of my End of Course Exam score for the Advance Placement Government class. I decided to include this because I took government a year after my class did. This means that I was with a lot of younger kids and was somewhat out of place, I was still smart, but didn’t feel that way because I had to wait a year to take the class. I eventually got over that and began to merge well with my fellow classmates and started to do much better on tests. This paper show that I got 216 pts. I scored proficient, only 11 away from advanced. AP GOVERNMENT
Tell us about a time when you demonstrated too much initiative? When I first started working at my new job I organized EVERYTHING. This quickly showed that I was a great host and I rose to the top, very quickly. This made other host jealous of me to the point that that didn’t listen to what I had to tell them. This was difficult, especially when I messed up due to not knowing everything because I was new, and they weren’t willing to help. • Describe a situation where you felt you had not communicated well. How did you correct the situation? This is situation is very teenager cliché-ish. My boyfriend and I weren’t very good at communicating our true feelings. When I first started my second job I began working closely with another boy that reminded me of my boyfriend. My boyfriend quickly became jealous and lashed out because I didn’t communicate well enough with him about my or his feelings. • Give an example of a time when you made a mistake because you did not listen well to what someone had to say. This unfortunately happens a lot at my job as a host. When you have two managers and 3 hosts on it can get pretty confusing on who is going where. As head host I’m in charge of it. Sometimes when I take wait though I’m not consciously listening to my boss and then I go to send a table to somewhere we just sat. This is not only my fault but embarrassing for the company. There is usually an easy fix by just sitting them somewhere else that quickly opens and guests aren’t usually aware of this fluke but my boss is. • What kinds of decisions are most difficult for you? Describe one? Decisions that I would somewhat describe as selfish. More specifically ones that are good for me, but will hurt my friends or family’s feelings. The one I’m brooding over currently is college, I’ve already decided where I’m going, its three hours away, and all of my friends are stay here, or near by and are making me feel bad for leaving them, even though they still have the option to leave. • Describe a project that was late and how your efforts brought it back under control. THIS PROJECT! Yes, the one I’m currently working on. It technically isn’t late according to my teacher, but I, as a senior, want to get out early. So I have made my own schedule and am behind. To resolve it I’ve finished early in other classes and have stayed to work on this. • Have you ever had a conflict with a boss or professor? How did you resolve it? My past boss started to write me up for missing shifts, even though I had given him a schedule of when I worked at my other job. I tried talking to him about my schedule but wasn’t very successful so unfortunately I had to put in my two weeks. • What motivates you? I’ve always have been self motivated. I’m not sure why I feel obligated to do work correctly and efficiently, but that is the way I’m built, and I couldn’t ask for anything else. I’m a better ‘me’ when I’m successful. • Why did you choose to attend your college? University of Central Missouri will feel like a home away from home for me. Its not just similar in size to Hollister, but even the people act the same, have similar values, and accept me the same. • What qualities do you feel a successful manager should have? Communications skills are what I value most, not just vocally, but physically too. I enjoy someone that I can comfortably talk to but also can read their body language well so I know how to accurately react to them. • Why do you want to work in the film industry? I’ve always enjoyed the creativity that comes will the film industry, and its freedom. It requires passion, that I have. And keeps me interested with all the directions it can go in. • Do you prefer to work in teams or alone? Why? I personally think that I am a great independent worker. I also think that there is too much in one job to be done alone. I personally think that when I’m given a leadership position in a job I perform better. I’m great at delegation so I don’t get too stressed out, and I pick great team members, ones I can trust, that I know will get the job done well and efficiently. The Interview
Tell me about yourself. I am a high school senior, almost college freshman, that enjoys art, softball, and spending time with my family. My creativity is a very useful tool that I plan to use here in my everyday work life. While my leaderships in softball are very useful for this position because I’m hard working, dedicated, and know how and when to take initiative. Important Tips • Be a good team member. Even if you do work better alone, administrators will always admire those who work well with groups, because most of life is working well with groups. • Distinguish yourself. Its not just about being the best, you don’t have to make others look bad to make yourself better. Go above and beyond to be “The Best”. • Anticipate problems and needs of management. Not only is it good to stop problems before they happen, but your boss will also appreciate and remember it. • Try to avoid ever saying "that's not my job". Don’t be lazy. Its that simple. • Avoid backstabbing, office gossip, and spreading rumors. This shouldn’t have to be said, it’s childish and a waste of time, but it must be said, because people love to be childish and waste time. • Difficult Tips • Be on time, whether it is with showing up for work, returning from breaks, going to meetings, or turning in assignments. I do honor being on time, but I have been raised in a home where time does not exist which makes it difficult to be on time. Not because I don’t choose to, but because those that I am in charge of choose to not care. • Avoid the impulse to criticize your boss or the company. We all get frustrated, it’s a natural human reaction. And I have also been encourage with negative reinforcement, which makes it difficult for me to not negatively enforce others. I have grown to learn though, that not everyone learns the same way. Keeping your Job
