Brooklyn Bridge Contract 6 - Project Challenges • Replace waterproofing membrane under the approach roadway pavement • Replace reinforced concrete decks (bridges) • Correct deterioration of steel framing (bridges) • Improve earthquake resistance • Maintain traffic – no 24/7 closures • Increase capacity of SB FDR exit ramp (widen ramp A) • Meter traffic flow of NB FDR exit ramp • Improve traffic flow at merge with main approach • Widen road F (Brooklyn side)
Project Scope – Contract 6 • Replace bridge deck. Ramps and approaches: • Arch blocks A to G Manhattan. • Arch blocks I to III Brooklyn • Ramps A B C F G H and I Manhattan • New pre-cast slab over arches • Steel grid deck filled with concrete on the ramps • Orthotropic deck for the Franklin square structure.
Complete replacement of superstructures for: York street and main street structures- Brooklyn Reconfiguration (widening) of ramp A at gore areas between: ramps A and C; ramps A and B; ramps A and G Replacement of existing bearings with elastomeric bearings for all ramp and approach structures to meet current seismic requirements. Repair or re-pointing of stone masonry structures. Additional rehabilitation measures at both anchorages for seismic retrofitting the existing trusses. Painting of the entire bridge Provide maintenance and protection of traffic for all stages of construction. Project Scope Continued

Franklin Square – Seismic Retrofitting • Install clamping devices on eye bar members. • Install new lower lateral bracing diagonals. • Replace sway bracings. • Install arch column bracing. • Install new seismic shoes.
