18 Mill Operational Millage Renewal Why? • Cornerstone of our educational funding • Required by law to get our State funding • Applies only to second homes and businesses • Provides over 60% of our operational dollars • Without this renewal, we will run out of money by late October 2012.

Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Why? • Items would otherwise have to come out of General Fund (where we pay for all of our educational expenses) • Keeps facilities and infrastructure up-to-date, safe, and inviting • Keeps community attractive to new businesses and potential community members and students • Responsible for the current excellent condition of our facilities
Sinking Fund Millage Renewal What has this been used for in the past? • Replaced the aged roofs, boilers, electrical, plumbing, & parking lots in most buildings • Renovated both auditoriums into preferred performance centers • Created energy savings of over $350,000 annually • Purchased property for future expansion
Sinking Fund Millage Renewal New funds will be used in all district facilities: • Roof replacement • Parking lot, drive-way, & sidewalk replacement • Exterior repairs (e.g., drainage and windows) • Plumbing and restroom renovations • Selected electrical upgrades • Heating system upgrades and/or replacements
Technology Bond What? • 0.40 mills for 8 years on all property • Costs $40 - $50 annually for a homeowner with a $200,000 market value house • Can only be used on technology & communication equipment; no salaries, fringes, or positions
Technology Bond Why? • Last major technology purchases: 12 years ago • Students’ projects from home cannot run on current, aged systems • Meet the needs of students & staff in today’s technology- rich world
Technology Bond New funds will be used in all district facilities: • Network and fiber upgrades • Teacher & student workstation upgrades • Communication system upgrades • Safety & surveillance system upgrades • Shared technology
Char-Em Special Education Millage What? • 1.16 mills for 4 years • Costs $116 annually for a homeowner of a $200,000 market value house • Pays for specialists in our district from Char-Em staff • Contributes $700,000 for support of district special education staffing • Frees up District General Fund dollars to be used in other educational programs
