Design Standard • Basis • All MTF cryogenic test stands generate the same set of quench signals and require the same quench management logic. • All MTF cryogenic power systems use the same set of quench control signals. • Objectives • For each test stand area (HMTF or VMTF), use only one complete set of standard quench management hardware and heater firing units (HFUs). • Connect any area test stand to the area quench management system • Connect any cryogenic power supply system to an area test stand and area quench management system. • Assure configuration integrity prior to enable powering a test stand using a simple configuration interlock system. Configuration Procedure (1) Choose a Power Supply System (e.g., CPS-2) (2) Choose a Test Stand Area (e.g., HMTF) (3) Connect Power Supply System Bus to Test Stand Area Bus (4) Choose a Test Stand within area (e.g., Stand 4) (5) Connect Test Stand Area Bus to selected Test Stand Power Leads (6) Connect Area HFU Power Cables to selected Test Stand HFU Distribution Box (7) Connect Quench Signal Cable to the selected Test Stand (8) Connect Quench Control Signals Cable to the selected Power Supply System DAQ-00-043 - Quench Management System Standard Design
Configuration Interlock Requirements • The Configuration Interlock System must prevent: • Connecting the Quench Signals cable to the wrong Test Stand • Connecting the Quench Control Signals Cable to the wrong Power Supply • Connecting the HFU strip heater power cables to the wrong Test Stand • In addition, the Configuration Interlock System should allow disabling particular configurations (e.g., connecting a Tevatron Test Stand to a power supply that may damage test stand equipment) • The Configuration Interlock System must generate a de-energize to fail True/False signal to indicate that system configuration is OK to power.
