A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court What it’s about • A man named Hank Morgan is mysteriously sent back in time to 6th century Arthurian England • He uses his knowledge of technology to make the people of the land think he is a powerful wizard • Using their beliefs, he elevates his status and tries to change the way the country is run
Jurassic Park Short-Version Plot On a secluded island near Costa Rica, using high-end technology, a greedy man named Hammond is cloning dinosaurs to create the greatest zoo/resort in the world. To determine whether the island is safe experts are brought in to evaluate the safety. Soon it is found that the island is unsafe and chaos ensues for the experts. After fighting many dinosaurs and losing some people in the process the survivors escape the island and the park is shut down.
Themes A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court Jurassic Park The Potential Dangers of Technology Slightly similar theme with our discussion of the Matrix • Science in Opposition to Superstition • Coincides with week 9 readings and being mindful of the past (The Times They Are A-Changin’) (Meant as a joke. Sorry if this offends)
Thesis • While A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court brings “future” technology to the past, Jurassic Park brings the past to the future. This is part of the reason I think these two books were grouped together. The other part is because both books are concerned with justice in their own ways.
