Augustus • Augustus real name was actually Octavian. • He reorganized Rome’s government. • Augustus was one of the first emperors of ancient Rome. • He was considered to be one of the greatest leaders in Rome. • Augustus defeated Cleopatra and Mark Antony’s army. • Augustus made sure that neither of them escaped by tactically placing ships were he knew they would try to escape.
The Boarders • The richest of the provinces was Ancient Egypt whichhad the annual flooding of the Nile river. • Egypt was one of the main food suppliers of the Roman Empire. • West of Egypt were the provinces of Cyrenaica, Africa, Numidia, and what used to be Carthage. • West of Numidia was the still Independent kingdom of Mauretania.
Tiberius • When Augustus died Livia sent out messengers to Tiberius. He was on a campaign to Illyria. • Tiberius upon receiving the message took control of an army and at once returned to Rome to take his place as emperor. • Soon after he became emperor he sent his son to face the rebellion on the Danube and Rhine rivers. They managed to push back the Germanic tribes. • Tiberius died after a 23 year reign over the Roman Empire.
Caligula • Caligula was born in a camp in Germany. That’s were he spent the first few years of his life. • As a baby for the purpose of morale his father dressed him up in army clothes and also a small version of soldier boots. • His nickname Caligula means little boots this stuck with him for the rest of his life. • Caligula with in the first years of being Emperor became seriously ill but he did recover but it affected his mind. • Caligula wanted to be granted divine honors before he even died this was against Roman customs. • Many conspiracies arose against Caligula and one succeeded he along with his wife and daughter were assassinated by the Praetorian Guard.
Summary of the book • The book The Roman Empire focus’s mainly on the rise and fall of the once great Empire. • It mainly shows you between the reign of Augustus and all the way up to the Germanic Kingdoms. • Most of the book focus’s on the Emperors of Ancient Rome such as Tiberius, Caligula, Titus, and so on. • Augustus Caesar

Octavian becomes Augustus and establishes the Roman Empire. • 14 A.D Augustus dies Tiberius becomes Emperor.
