  1. Warm Up Use your notes from the video to answer the following questions: 1.) What is the story of the boy who dances? 2.) Why don’t a lot of people speak the Native American language on the Rez? 3.) Why has their Native American identity disappeared? 4.) How do they stay away from going down a bad path?

WELLPINIT WINS • The Indians chant “Arnold sucks!” • His coach tells him to put his anger into his game. • Arnold gets hit in the head with a quarter. • Eugene stitches him up. • He gets elbowed in the head by Rowdy. • Wellpinit wins. REARDAN WINS • He talks to the sports guy and tells him that he wants to beat Rowdy more than anything. • Coach tells him that his job is to guard Rowdy. • Arnold blocks a shot from Rowdy and makes a basket. • He stops Rowdy. • Reardan wins. • Arnold feels guilty.

  5. Author’s Tone • The author’s attitude or feeling toward a subject. • Ex: sarcastic, funny, nice, rude, indifferent • Tone and purpose go together. • Ask yourself: What’s my purpose? What tone should I use? • What the author’s voice would sound like if he or she had spoken the words rather than written them?

  6. Author’s Audience • Intended audience means the people the writer has in mind as the readers. • Who is the writer talking to? • Who you write to changes how you write. • It changes your TONE.
