Author’s Tone • The author’s attitude or feeling toward a subject. • Ex: sarcastic, funny, nice, rude, indifferent • Tone and purpose go together. • Ask yourself: What’s my purpose? What tone should I use? • What the author’s voice would sound like if he or she had spoken the words rather than written them?
Author’s Audience • Intended audience means the people the writer has in mind as the readers. • Who is the writer talking to? • Who you write to changes how you write. • It changes your TONE.
