    1. PRIMIS+ and the IM&T DES You will receive guidance from your PRIMIS+ facilitator; however: You will need to do the actual work and data preparation.

    2. What can the EMIS system do? IM & T DES - How can EMIS Help? The next few slides are a taster from a seminar which provides an overview of the key areas where EMIS can help with the IM & T DES. It considers the processes involved in providing information on the data standards and an understanding of how you can use your EMIS system (LV and PCS) to plan for your IM & T DES accreditation.

    3. Review Code Use LV practices should use the code conversion facility to replace their local codes with true clinical terms. PCS practices should ensure that all unmatched clinical terms are dealt with.

    4. Read Code Audit Use the EMIS Read Code Usage Audit to review your practice’s or individual users’ coding habits. The results can give you a theme for in house training:

    5. Consultation Figures Use the Consultation Figures audit in EMIS to determine that your clinicians are adding consultations with the correct place of procedure. Both high and low consultation figures can indicate the incorrect use of Consultation Mode.

    6. Problem Medication Linker This facility highlights any medication in the patients’ records without an appropriate diagnosis or a diagnosis without the appropriate medication.     7. Problem Management Active Problem Management enables you to : Move problems from one category to another. Set default significance and durations to particular clinical terms. This could end the issue of problems being incorrectly filed in Consultation Mode, and make it easier for clinicians to view and review patient problems.

    8. Security Paper records use signatures to trace actions. Electronic Patient Records (EPR) use access logs, authentication and audit trails. Users must log on as themselves. Each user should take full responsibility for protecting their own security. They should change user when they leave a terminal and ensure that they do not leave their smartcard in an unattended terminal.

    9. Confidentiality Practices should ensure that they have access control measures in place to ensure that information is only disclosed to authorised individuals. All EMIS Operation Managers sign a confidentiality policy when they join EMIS. You can be assured that any information they see on site will be treated with the strictest confidence.

    10. EMIS Access EMIS Access is a web service that you can offer free of charge to your patients. You can offer any/all of the following: Change of address (LV only). Online appointments (LV & PCS). Repeat requests (LV only). Pre-registration (LV only). Medical Records Viewer (Coming soon).     11. Future Developments EMIS will soon be releasing a new sub-module for ‘Data Accreditation Searches’. This is not part of Population Manager, but will be accessed through the Search and Reports section of the system. The module will have the following functionality: Run DES IM&T searches on demand. See the results of the last search. View a list of patients in the search. The results will be available in the format specified by CHART, in an accessible folder for download to the CHART software on demand.
