Battle of Cantigny cont… • Gas shells were fired at Americans who were digging trenches the day before the attack. • Village taken in 45 minutes with the help of France air cover, trenches, and 368 heavy guns. • Allied victory
Battle of the Piave River • June 15–23, 1918 • Piave River in Italy • Italy, Britain, France, and United States against Austria-Hungary • Italian Commander- Armandio Diaz • Austria-Hungary Commander- ArtherArz von Straussenburg • 70 divisions from the allied forces • 57 divisions from Austria-Hungary • Allied forces casualties- 80,000 killed and wounded • Austria-Hungary casualties- 102,000 killed and wounded and 25,000 captured.
Battle of the PiaveRiver cont… • Austrians planned the attack as an all-out frontal attack. • Commander Diaz learned of attack and the exact time they were to attack. • Italian Artillery opened fire all along their front on the crowded enemy trenches. • Some Austrian Soldiers retreated. • Austrian Soldiers at the front continued to attack. • Austrians were able to cross the river with the bridges. • Austrian Artilleries destroyed bridges leaving Austrians stranded. • 20,000 Austrian Soldiers drowned trying to swim to the east side. • Ended with a Italian victory.
Battle of Ambos Nogales • Part of W.W.I, Mexican Revolution, and Border Wars. • Fought August 27th, 1918. • The only battle in W.W.I. on U.S. soil. Nogales, Sonora and Nogales, Arizona. • United States against Mexico, and Germany • Fighting for U.S.- 800 • Fighting for Mexico and Germany- 600 • U.S. Casualties- 7 killed and 28 wounded • Mexican Casualties- 30-129 killed and 300 wounded. • German Casualties- 2 killed
Battle of Ambos Nogales cont… • U.S. had declared war on Germany. • Lieutenant Colonel Frederick J. Herman received a letter. • The letter warned him of a raid that would happen in late August. • Started with a mexican citizen smuggling guns across the border to Mexico. • Mexico Surrendered • U.S. Victory
