How Do Hurricanes Happen? • Hurricanes are the most awsome,violent storms on earth. People call these storms by other names, such as typhoons or cyclones, depending on where they occur. The scientific term for all these storms is the tropical cyclone. Only tropical cyclones that form over the Atlantic Ocean or Easten Pacific Ocean are where hurricanes form.

Effects • The serious situation on the ground with many residents forced into roof tops to desperately seek help from passing rescue helicopters. Conditions for the tens of thousands of people who had sought shelter in New Orland's superdome quickly deteriorated. Water and food supplies ran short and sanitary broke down.
About Hurricane Katrina • Hurricane Katrina landed New Orland in 2005. • The hurricane caused flooding and death to innocent people. • The hurricane lasted nine days. • The hurricane passed the center of South East of NewOrlands on August 2005. • The storm surge in the area of the rigolets pass is estimated 16 feet not including wave action declining to 7 feet at Madisonville. • By August 31 80% of NewOrlands was flooded.
