  3. WHAT IS GEOGRAPHY? Draw this mind map in your book. On each branch, write what you think Geography might be. Do this before you continue to the other slides.

  4. Read this- do not write it yet! GEOGRAPHY is the study of the world around us. There are three types of Geography. PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY is about what the natural things on earth are like. HUMAN GEOGRAPHY is about how and where people live. ENVIRONMENTAL GEOGRAPHY is about how people impact their surroundings.

  5. KNOWLEDGE CHECK: Can you remember what each of the three types of Geography are about? Which words should go under the yellow boxes?

  6. How is your knowledge of Geography? Fill out this table (in your book) as you look at photos 1-8. For each image, first write what kind of Geography it is, then write what you see, then write a Question you have about the picture.

  15. Extension: What KIND of Geography are these? How do you know? Write a paragraph to explain why. The aspect of Geography that I think I will find more interesting is… This is because… • EXTENSION OPTION: Can any of the following images be about more than one type of Geography? Explain using full sentences. (Move closer to see the images if you need to!) Durdle Door, a coastal feature in England. It is caused by erosion, which happens due to the power of the waves.

  17. Plenary Study the picture below of a swimming pool in China. Do you think it is an example of PHYSICAL, HUMAN or ENVIRONMENTAL Geography? Think first, then write your answer in your book and explain why you answered the way you did.
