Thigh • Knee • Leg • Ankle • foot
thigh • Femur articulates with • Acetabulum to form hip joint • Tibia and patella to form knee joint
Fascial compartments of thigh • Anterior compartment • Major muscle : quadriceps femoris • Femoral artery • Femoral nerve • Extension of leg at knee joint • Flexes thigh at hip joint
Posterior compartment: • Biceps femoris • Branches of profundafemoris artery • Sciatic nerve
Medial fascial compartment: • Major muscle:Adductormagnus • Profundafemoris artery and obturator artery • Obturatornerve
Patella • Largest sesamoid bone(within quadriceps femoris muscle ) • Triangular bone with apex facing downward • articulates with the femur • covers and protects the anterior articular surface of the knee joint.
tibia • Large weight bearing medial bone of the leg • Articulates with the condyles of the femur and the head of the fibula above and • with the talus and the distal end of fibula below
fibula • Slender lateral bone of the leg. • No articulation at knee joint, • Articulates with the tibia above and below
Poplitealfossa • Diamond shaped intramuscular space situated at the back of the knee joint • Laterally: biceps femoris above and lateral head of gastrocnemius and plantaris below • Medially: medial had of gastrocnemius • Contains nerves and blood vessels passing between leg and thigh
Anterior fascial compartment of leg • Tibialis anterior • Anterior tibial artery • Deep peroneal nerve • Dorsiflexion of foot at ankle ,inverts the foot
lateral fascial compartment of leg • Peroneuslongus • Branches from peroneal artery • Superficial peroneal nerve • Plantar flexes the foot at ankle
posterior fascial compartment of leg • Gastrocnemius, plantaris • Posterior tibial artery • Tibial nerve • Plantar flexes the foot at ankle and flexes the knee.
We have tarsal bones forming the heel of the foot • Metatarsals forming the middle portion of the foot • And • Phalanges forming the toes
