Day 13 Looking for Nspire-ation
Your next task… • … choose one of the three applets • … develop questions that push and probestudents’ thinking as they use the applets • … the questions need to deepen student understanding of the topics you identified
As you begin this task…. • Think about your own experience using the applets • Consider how to move your students beyond guess & check • Ensure that using the applet is more than just a game
Keep in mind strengths from before… • Questions which varied an existing situation and asked students to consider the impact. • Questions that were framed around the ideas of compare and contrast. • Questions which required interpretation of a problem or solution. • Questions which required making a connection between and among ideas. • Questions which probed possible misconceptions.
Reminders about using technology • Intent is different than textbook lessons • Not intended to teach a method or algorithm • Intended to deepen mathematical underpinnings
Schedule • As a table, 5 minutes to choose an applet as a table • 5 minutes individual time to reflect on your thinking on that applet • Come back together as a table group • Remainder of time work together to decide on questions • Write questions on poster board (dark markers)
