Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore8 December 1941 • On 8 December 1941, the Japanese attacked the Pearl Harbour. • A bomb drop Raffles Place, Tengah Airfield and Seletar Airfield in 4am. • The Kota Bahru of Southern Thailand airfield was in the hands of the Japanese on the same day in 8 December 1941 • The Japanese then started to invade Malaya

Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore10 December 1941 • Two British warships were bombed and sunk by the Japanese warplanes of the Coast of Kuantanon 10 December 1941 • The warships were the Prince of Wales and the Repulseand were sent by the British in the Singapore Naval Base to fight the Japanese. • Therefore, the British no longer had warships.

Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore11-17 december 1941 • On the 11-12 December 1941, many British soldiers were killed by the Japanese tanks at Jitra in Kedah as the British have no tanks there. • On 17 December 1941, bombs fell on the streets in Penang. • Half the city was on fire and hundreds of people were killed or injured. • Then, the Japanese took small boats from Penang and used them to land on the west coast of Malaya. • Because of defending Johor, the British abandoned Kuala Lumpur on 11 January 1942. • Hence, Japanese soldiers captured Kuala Lumpur easily.

Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore31 January 1942 • On 31 January 1942, Johor Bahru was captured by the Japanese. • Because of that, the British decided to move back to Singapore. • The British blew up the Causeway that linked Malaya and Singapore. • They hope to slow down Japanese entering into Singapore. • Within 55 days, the whole Malaya was captured by the Japanese.

Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore • On 6 February 1942, the Japanese Commander, Lieutenant-General Tomoyuki Yamashita set up his headquarters at the Sultan of Johor’s Palace. • Because the headquarters is at the South side of Johor, the Japanese then started the attacking and capturing from the North Side of Singapore and to the important areas. • On 7 February, the Japanese attacked PulauUbin first to mislead the British. But the British were mislead by the Japanese. • On 8 February, the Japanese soldiers then landed on the northwest coast of Singapore.

Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore • On 9 February 1942, the Japanese cross the repaired crossway that was repaired on 31 January 1942 to Singapore. • On 11 February 1942, the Japanese went for fierce fighting at the Bukit Timah area. • To defend the area, some Chinese volunteer to help the British soldiers. • In the end, the British lost the battle while both sides suffered heavy losses. • Fort Siloso at Sentosa was attacked by the Japanese. Then, the British soldiers then succeeded sinking one of the Japanese ships on 12 February 1942

  9. Japanese Invasion of Malaya and Singapore • A fierce battle was fought at the PasirPanjang. Together with the British and Malay Soldiers led by the Lieutenant Adnan bin Saidi fought bravely on 13 February 1942. • These soldiers outnumbered the Japanese soldiers • On 14 February 1942, the Japanese soldiers marched into the British Military Hospital, now the Alexandra Hospital. • They killed all the doctors, hospital staff and patients. • After that, the Japanese managed to capture Singapore within seven days.
