  3. Consider the following….. If you were in Miss Beadle’s class and she wanted you to do a drill and practice worksheet, she would have to hand write a worksheet for EACH and EVERY student….or make Willie do it after school. www.prairiepics.com

  4. Time Marches On…. • In Mr. Cain’s 6th grade, we looked forward to each and every paper….not because we loved learning, but because we loved the smell of freshly mimeographed pages!

  5. And On…. • If you were in LouAnn Johnson’s class, she would have attempted to give you a Xerox copy…..but “wait, you mean to tell me there’s a copier and no PAPER?!” (Dangerous Minds, 1995) Cornerboyjazz.blogspot.com

  6. And On… Teachers today have more tools than ever to teach and assess students. The West Virginia Department of Education is encouraging teachers of 21st century students to use 21 century tools. www.annarbor.com

  7. When I was your age…. “We didn’t have TV! We listened to the radio!”-Dad, 50’s Bottom Line – Technology is a large part of a child’s universe…..and they are MASTERS of their universe! “I had to go outside to change the antenna if I wanted to watch one of the 3 channels we had” – Sonya, 70’s

  8. What does this mean? • Technology will be added as a way to teach and assess students. • A Technology Integration Specialist is at some schools to teach teachers know how to use and implement the technology. • Students will use and learn new technology in order to learn new concepts.

  20. Odyssey • Teacher controls the content • Students work at their own pace • Teacher can gauge effort and understanding • Since students are self-directed, teachers can have some time to grade papers!

  22. Some things to think about • Technology will CHANGE • Technology will FAIL • Learn to be proactive – plan for the above • Technology is a TOOL, not a babysitter • Internet Safety is ESSENTIAL when working with students.
