ASTeC Linear Collider Activities Susan Smith
Aims • To contribute to LC accelerator R&D, positioning the UK to take a lead in delivery of significant accelerator system to any LC project The capability exists within CLRC but the UK effort includes and will be significantly enhanced by the collaborations with and contributions from the university groups on specific areas and encouragement for UK industrial involvement Susan Smith ASTeC
Primary Areas of Interest • Beam delivery system • Damping rings • Positron source (undulator) • Photo injector (CTF3 drive beam laser amplifier) Susan Smith ASTeC
Beam delivery system (BDS) • Solenoidal Correction • Error and feedback simulation • Hosted BDIR 2000 • Development of MERLIN code • Manchester Uni (halo collimation simulation) • Joint (CASE) student with Phil Burrows on FONT • Report planned to define the requirements for the UK to take responsibility for the deliver TESLA BDS Susan Smith ASTeC
Damping Rings • Collaboration on CLIC design • Host Damping Ring workshop Autumn 2002 • Report planned to define the requirements for the UK to take responsibility for the deliver TESLA damping rings Susan Smith ASTeC
SLAC/CLRC collaborations • Interaction Region Stabilisation and Design • RF system development • Electronics and Controls Development • Injector Systems and Low Frequency RF These are not exclusive topic areas, next steps is a meeting in July for more detailed discussion on favoured areas, aimed at defining programmes and deliverables by the Autumn.
