  3. Why was ASTeC created? • OST Large Facilities Strategic Road Map • Ensure UK has access to world class facilities • 4 / 7 future facilities are accelerator based • Accelerator resources mainly in CLRC • £2.0M OST direct funding for Technology Centres • £0.75M for ASTeC

  4. How will ASTeC function? • Intention to combine all CLRC accel expertise • Presently Daresbury based, but will change • Supports all accelerator activities; SRS, ISIS, diamond, ESS, CASIM/4GLS, new projects...... • Must work closely with HEIs • Visitors, fellowships, students

  5. What will ASTeC do? • Program defined July 2001 totalling £0.75 M • Linear colliders • High power proton accelerators • CASIM/4GLS • Generic science and technology • Publicity (open day in London - March 02)

  6. Linear Collider Program • Continue activities from Daresbury (SLS, HLO) • Recruit new staff (Band 4, 2 x Band 5) • Workshop on damping rings • Continue activities with PPD at RAL • Bid to SR2002 £7.5 M with PPARC
