J-1 Visitors J-1 Research Scholar at the Department of English: Rufei Liu, China Dr. Liu plays the Zither/Guzheng in her spare time and is an Assistant Professor working with Dr. Carpenter. • J-1 Exchange Visitors come to UF for a variety of reasons including giving one-time lectures, conducting research, or teaching courses. Some even come to complete internships. • J-1 Visitors spread their knowledge and culture to the UF community while also gaining an understanding of American culture. Our visitors benefit from UF’s academic resources and form relationships with UF faculty, staff, and students.
What EVS Does • -Serves as intermediary between the exchange visitor, the academic unit at UF which invites the visitor, the federal government and state and local agencies. • -Issues original DS2019 documents, and amends DS2019’s as required. • -Provides advice on immigration matters and directs the visitor to other resources as necessary to help the visitor fulfill his/her educational and cultural exchange.
-Maintaining continuous insurance coverage for exchange visitor (J-1) and any dependents ( J-2’s.) • -Updating EVS with current address and e-mail information. • -Maintaining original program objectives.
