  2. Features The Rosetta Stone is made of black basalt. It is eleven inches thick, three feet nine inches high, and two feet four inches wide.

  3. Occupational history This stone was a decree by Egyptian priests about the crowning of King Epiphanes. He lived from 203 B.C. to 181 B.C.

  4. History of Excavation The Rosetta Stone was found by French soldiers while they were building a fort. After that, the British took over for a short while and made France give over the stone. For years it sat in a British museum. Then, a man named Jean-François Champollion tried to decipher the code. Once it was decoded, it helped many people learn the ancient Egyptian literature.

  5. Cultural Data The Rosetta Stone was made to tell about King Ptolemy V. Epiphanes. There was one bleak period in Egypt when dominated by Persia.
