MASK ASSEMBLY • Only size S and L are readily available. • Special Order(XL,XS,XXS) Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Code 4.6.3.1 Patuxent River, MD 20670-1906 comm (301) 342-8850 dsn 342-8850 Back
HOOD ASSEMBLY • Neck seal comes in two sizes: Standard and Small • Hood Cowl comes in three sizes: XS, Standard and XL • Can only be ordered as mask assembly. • Made of Bromo-butyl rubber Back
FACEPLATE • Includes: • Nose occluder • Toggle harness • Hood/Mask inlet adapter • Drink facility • Microphone assembly • Hood outlet valve • Snout • Made of polycarbonate Back
ORINASAL MASK • Two sizes designated on mask: • Large (P) • Small (Q) • Made of silicon Back
FACEPLATE RIPAWAY TOGGLE • Located on lower right portion of faceplate. • Once used, the mask SHALLbe taken out of service. Back
H-MANIFOLD Used to toggle between 100% O2 for variants 2-4 and ambient air from pusher fan For the A/P22P-14A(V)1-4 Back
MK-2 Manifold Area where air from pusher fan is divided to go to mask for breathing and hood for cooling and defogging. For the A/P23P-14A(V) Back
Hood Inlet Adapter Connects the hood inlet hose from the H-manifold assembly to the hood compartment of the mask. Back
Hood Inlet Valve Located within the H-manifold. Prevents air from being drawn from the hood compartment into the orinasal mask via the H-manifold. Back
H-manifold Inlet Valve Located within the H-manifold. Prevents oxygen from leaking through the pusher fan in result of pusher fan failure for the (V)2 - (V)4 configurations. Back
HOOD OUTLET VALVE • Remains in the open position. • Closed if Pusher fan failure • Permits demisting air to exist the hood. Back
Inhalation Valve and Ice Guard Mounted on the left side of orinasal mask. Makes it easier to exhale while preventing excessive loss of oxygen or air through the compensated exhalation valve. Back
Compensated Exhalation Valve Mounted within the exhalation duct of the orinasal mask. Allows exhaled gases to be expelled into the environment when the pressure inside the mask is greater than the pressure in the outlet housing chamber. Back
Exhalation Outlet Valve Fitted in the exhalation duct below the compensated exhalation valve. Will prevent the inward leakage of contaminated air in the event of the compensated exhalation valve sticking in open position. Back
Snout Acts as a chamber to trap the warm exhaled air and prevents freezing of the exhalation valves. Back
DRINKING FACILITY • Ensure internal drink tube (inside mask) is positioned so that it is readily accessible by aircrew. WARNING. If the canteen is disconnected in a CBR contaminated environment, do not reconnect until all matching connectors are free of contamination. Back
TOGGLE HARNESS ASSEMBLY Ensure helmet attachment kit on CBR adapter straps have the dot on swivel link side Back
MICROPHONE ASSEMBLY • Consists of microphone, microphone cable, and terminal plug. • Can be used for either aircraft or ground communication use. Back
ANTI-SUFFOCATION DISCONNECT • Located at the upper end of the mask inlet hose. • Manually unlocked by inward clockwise rotation of knurled locking ring. The mask inlet hose may then be separated from the mask inlet adapter by pulling firmly down on the hose. Back
Mask Inlet Adapter Mounted at the left bottom edge of the faceplate. Facilitates the locking of the anti-suffocation disconnect to the faceplate. Back
NOSE OCCLUDER • Mounted through nose bridge of faceplate. • Available in sizes ranging from 4-7mm, in increments of 1mm in both short and long sizes. • Either a nose occluder or butyl blanking plugs must be installed. Back

C2A1 CANISTER • C2 canister is being replaced with the C2A1 canister. • Ensure canister is not expired via the Naval msg that lists authorized canister lot numbers. WARNING Filter canisters do not provide protection against ammonia gas or carbon monoxide. Protection against sulfur dioxide gas can only be provided for 5 to 10 minutes. Continued next slide
C2A1 Replacement Criteria • Physical damage. • Canister has been immersed in water. • Canister inlets clogged with dirt, oil, grease, or other foreign matter. • Excessive resistance to airflow or an increase in breathing resistance is felt. • The lot number of canister is listed as unserviceable in SB 3-30-2. • CB agent contamination. Continued next slide
C2A1 REPLACEMENT WARNING Wear protective mask and clothing, in accordance with local SOP, when replacing or disposing of a canister that has been exposed to a toxic agent. WARNING J-Manifold gasket(s) are occasionally displaced from the manifold when the canister is removed. Visual inspection to ensure that the gasket is in place must be performed when canisters are removed or installed. Back
90˚ Rubber Molding Covers a C2A1 canister and connects to the oxygen connector that determines if that mask is a variant 2, 3 or 4. Back
Helmet Attachment Kit • Necessary to integrate the respirator assembly with the aircrew helmet. • Ref NAVAIR 13-1-6. Back
