Grade 10 ST 2012 Acid –Base Neutralization
Acid – Base Neutralization • Acid- Base neutralization is a reaction in which an acid and a base react to form a salt and water Acid(aq) + Base(aq) Salt(aq) + Water(l)
Acid- Base Neutralization • When the number of H+ ions from the acid equals the number of OH- ions from the base, the result is neutral. • The pH of the solution is 7 • The acid is said to neutralize the base or vice versa
Acid – Base Neutralization • When the H+ and OH- ion concentrations are different, the neutralization reaction is incomplete • The pH would then depend on the concentration of surplus ( greater) reactants in the solution
