Jonathan Dayton A signer of the U.S. constitution
His life Jonathan Dayton was born in Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1760 and died in that exact same cityin 1824. He was an Episcopalian (a religion). His wife, Susan Williamson, married him on March 28, 1779, and they had two daughters. He has a city named after him—Dayton, Ohio, established in 1796. He has never set foot in that city. His part in the Revolutionary War. In1775, Dayton served as an ensign in the 3rd New Jersey Regiment. In 1777, as acommissioned lieutenant, he fought in the battle of Brandywine and Germantown. He was with Washington atValley Forge. In 1780, at age of 19, he became a captain. Also in that year,he was captured by the loyalists for only one winter then again joined the New Jersey Brigade. He then transferred to the 2nd New Jersey and fought in the battle of Yorktown.
Political careers Jonathan Dayton signed the constitution; in fact, he was the youngest signer of the U.S. constitution. He was only 26 years old when he signed. He was a New Jersey delegate. Dayton had a very political life. He was the fourth speaker in the U.S. House of Representatives, and he was a part of the United States Senate.
His life after the war He went to Princeton University after the Revolutionary Warand studied law. He split his time between land speculation, law, and politics. He was member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 1786- 1787 and 1790. Princeton University.
