  1. Promoting Change Harsh and Melanie

  2. Things we have done • Underground Food Court • KFR • Curbside

  3. How it isn’t sufficient • Most people don’t recycle • Nearly 60 to 70% of waste found in dustbins can be recycled and reused and close to 50% of the same waste can be composted. • People don’t believe in global warming • The fact is that a many Americans (42%) do not think climate change is a serious problem, and fully one-third, 33%, see it as a very serious problem. So, two-thirds do not see it as a very serious problem.

  4. How to make a difference Voting • Only 40.9% of the US voting eligible population voted in the 2010 general elections • 32.3% of eligible voting Texans

  6. Talk to Legislators

  7. Rep. Michele Bachmann introduces the Light Bulb Freedom Act of 2011 This week Rep. Michele Bachmann introduced legislation to repeal the idiotic incandescent light bulb ban enacted in 2007. Bachmann said her "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act" is needed because "government has no business telling an individual what kind of light bulb to buy." "In 2007, Congress overstepped its bounds by mandating that only 'energy efficient' light bulbs may be sold after January 1, 2012," she said. "This mandate has sweeping effects on American families and businesses and needs serious consideration before taking effect."

  8. Nuclear Energy

  9. Most sources agree that nuclear power is the U.S.'s largest source of non-polluting energy, accounting for 73% of electricity from non-carbon sources, including wind and solar power • Nuclear power accounts for about 19% of the total electricity generated in the United States, an amount comparable to all the electricity used in California, Texas and New York, three most populous states

  10. Nuclear power plants need less fuel than ones which burn fossil fuels. One ton of uranium produces more energy than is produced by several million tons of coal or several million barrels of oil • The radioactive waste produced by nuclear power plants is stored underground to minimize its impact on the environment

  11. What Should You Do For Now? • Reduce • Reuse • Recycle • Throw it away
