Our Moral Imperative:TheStrategic Process Foundation It is our moral imperative to prepare Allstudents in San Diego Unified to be able to succeed in college and career and to close racial achievement gaps by creating and supporting conditions that will reverse disparity in student achievement.

Focus Areas for 2011/12/13 • Professional Learning Communities • Reflective dialogue based on a shared set of norms allowing teachers to critique their own and their collective performance • Collaboration that is action oriented, producing tools to improve instruction, curriculum and assessment for all students • De-privatization of practice requiring teachers to share, observe and discuss each other’s methods • A collective focus on student learning fueled by the belief that all students can achieve at high levels and that each staff member shares a mutual obligation to ensure this occurs • Parent Community Engagement • Cluster Councils • College Career Readiness • College Readiness and Career Path Timeline (Board Approved June, 2011) • Commitment to A-G course work for all students (Mandated) • A core set of assessed and monitored foundational skills at each level • Strong special programs to increase the Graduation Rate • Coherent and aligned paths for vertical articulation Quality Teaching Parent Engagement Broad Curriculum

Next Steps: Stakeholder Feedback • School and Department Level Review of 12 Indicators and Provide Feedback on the Evidence of Accomplishment • There is consensus on the 12 Indicators of a Quality Neighborhood School, and the five-year destination • November 2011 – January 2012 school, central office department meetings • Cluster Council Engagement • Report feedback on Evidence of Accomplishment to the Deputy Superintendents by January 15
