Project Budget Kathy Klock (Gates Foundation): No one way to do this work – we allowed for uniqueness of grantees’ circumstances to accomplish proven college access activities
Surprise to Board to learn that the number of students reported to DOE in the spring as going onto to college NOT the same that actually go in the fall
Several grantees asked to use the PLAN (ACT product) in place of the PSAT. We are testing that instrument this coming year.
There are high schools that require all seniors to apply to college. The challenge to work with them to ensure that those seniors actually attend after graduation
There are lots of other college access type programs (GEAR-UP, TRIO, etc) in Maine schools, grantees need to articulate collaboration
The connection with the local higher ed institution helped with financial aid presentations and college visits

Summer interviews (conducted in July & August) of all June graduates with post-secondary plans to confirm intentions
Fall survey of actual college enrollment for June graduates (comparison of post-secondary intentions and actual enrollment)
Proven college access activities

Financial aid information nights for parents and student
Attend regional college fairs
College application assistance
Engagement and involvement of parents at all of the above activities [This is the biggest challenge facing all 28 of our grantees]
