  2. AGENDA • Update on “What to do when falling behind” • PL-1’s – what are you going to do? • Project/Plan by June’s End of Year Evaluation • PL-2’s recruit a PL-1??????????????????

Update on “What to do when falling behind” • Monthly meetings & Quarterly “Mentor Update for CRI”, Semi-annual and Annual Evaluations to assess progress and identify concerns. • The only change here is the “Scholarship Mentor Update” for CRI • Address deficiencies (particularly in participation or adherence to timeline) and gain insight into any challenges. • Document any unique or global challenge • Bring them to the program’s attention • Offer support or suggest corrective action • Any persisting unresolved concerns or unsatisfactory participation “written plan for improvement” that will suffice as an “Oral Warning” • If during Semi-annual or Annual Evaluations, then the evaluation will reflect “Unsatisfactory” scholarship until deficiency is addressed • Persistent deficiency in participation, adherence to established timeline or other concern should be brought to the program’s attention • A “written warning“ should be issued that includes the deficiency(s), expected correction plan, and a timeline of one month to correct the deficiency(s)

Update on “What to do when falling behind” If still deficiencies persist after one month: • Removal from the CRI with Immediate loss of protected time • loss of book money $350 • Ineligible for moonlighting (only in the NICU at Shands) • Ineligible for International Rotation • Ineligible for Conference time • Semi-annual and Annual Evaluations will reflect “Unsatisfactory” scholarship for the remainder of their training Refusal to participate will result in:  • Removal from the CRI with Immediate loss of protected time • loss of book money $350 • Ineligible for moonlighting (only in the NICU at Shands) • Ineligible for International Rotation • Ineligible for Conference time • Semi-annual and Annual Evaluations will reflect “Unsatisfactory” scholarship for the remainder of their training Refusing to provide (or any delay in providing) the Program with requested documentation during a period of assessment for participation, adherence to timeline or other concern will result in: • Removal from the CRI with Immediate loss of protected time • loss of book money $350 • Ineligible for moonlighting (only in the NICU at Shands) • Ineligible for International Rotation • Ineligible for Conference time • Semi-annual and Annual Evaluations will reflect “Unsatisfactory” scholarship for the remainder of their training THIS IS A SUMMARY OF SUGGESTIONS IT WILL BE FINALIZED AT THIS MONTHS PEDS GME PLEASE VOICE YOUR OPNIONS +/- TO REPS

COMPLETE 2 OF 3 • Write a Manuscript • Submit for publication prior to graduation • IF ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION IT WILL FULFILL ALL REQUIREMENTS • Prepare Oral presentation for: • Pediatric Scholarship Group or Local Presentation (at least one) • Grand Rounds or • Noon Conference • Prepare Poster Presentation for: • Pediatric Scholarship Group or Local Presentation (at least one) • National Meeting • Research Day • Education week if applicable • Other (i.e. Duval County Medical Society Resident Research day) ALSO • Write a grant application • UF Deans Grant (Due January of PGY 2 year) • CATCH Grant • AAP Resident Research Grant • PAS Resident Research Grant • Submit abstract to Regional or National Meeting in your 3rd year • Pediatric Academic Society (May) • American Academy of Pediatrics National Convention (October) • Association of Pediatric Program Directors • Southern Regions Meetings (New Orleans annually February) • ACGME NEW CHAIRMAN

PL-1’s – what are you going to do? project/plan by June’s end of year evaluation • Define your clinical question • (or area of interest) to study • Identify a mentor in your area of interest • by May of your PGY-1 year • Update your mentor monthly • Meet with your mentor at least quarterly • Collect and review literature regarding research design (August 31 of PGY-2 year) • Present these findings to your mentor, Program Director or Faculty member of the Pediatric Scholarship Group. • Summarize and present at Pediatric Scholarship Group
