Context idea In 2011Nicky and Huseyin got married. They didn’t have much money. In the same year they bought a cheap house but it had lots of problems.
Needs doing What does it mean? • There is some kind of problem/action that is needed. • There is a reason why this problem must be solved/changed.
CCQs – needs doing Look at the picture of the house in 2011. • What were the problems? A hole in the roof, etc • Was there a problem with the roof/etc ? Yes • Could Nicky and Huseyin live there? Maybe not • What did they have to do before they moved? Some work
Have + past participle What does it mean? • Something has been done and we can see the result. • The jobs/action was done in the past but a present result. • In this case it means that the problems have been sorted out, things repaired, replaced, etc.
CCQs Look at the picture of the house now. • Is the house the same as in 2011? No • Can Nicky and Huseyin live there now? Yes • Are the windows broken? No • Is the roof damaged? No • Is there a new front door? Yes
Substitution tables Needs doing • Three columns – what are they? • Include singular and plural items because it changes need/needs. • How many times should you write need? • How many examples do you give and how many could you elicit from the students?
