  4. NOTE TAKING! • Position on page • Use of arrows and boxes to emphasise links • Leave a narrow margin to add in own note • Afterwards tidy and check for accuracy • Use of highlighters/ underlining key points • Selective – end / start • Purpose and summary

  5. Essay Writing • Start with a plan! • Draft headings – bullet points • Introduction – aim of essay • Main text – each point in subsections • Summary paragraph - emphasise • Different types – factual, reporting • Each sentence – make a single point • Concise – communicate clearly

  6. Presentations • Different types – oral, computer aided, wide range of resources • Time limits – check! • Not too ambitious – audience needs to understand you • Speak clearly – eye contact • Avoid fussy slides – one colour/ style • Add to presentation – not a group reading session!

  7. Delivery of speech • Be animated! Use face, body, hands, voice • Speed – not too fast • Vary pitch – keep up interest • Cue cards if nervous • Handouts with care! • Rehearse and check timings • Avoid excessive humour or repeated words • Appropriate language • Clear slides

  8. Research skills • Purpose – communication of design, ideas • Define your topic • Break into keywords • Refine your field • Check references • Cite sources • Return to original task set • Let someone else read final draft!
