Success Stories • 32 states report use of ITRC’s Vapor Intrusion guidance document in at least one of the following ways: • As a basis to develop state guidance; • As a reference within state guidance; • As a go to resource for state staff and consultants/contractors; • As a tool to directly assist with site activities “Maine had its own guidance for vapor intrusion investigation, but since participating in ITRC will likely adopt the ITRC tech-reg as the default.” – Fred Lavallee, ME

10. Success Stories • Lackland Air Force Base – Texas • Saved $1.5M by using ITRC’s document “Characterization and Remediation of Soils at Closed Small Arms Firing Ranges” to remediate lead contaminated soil at a closed skeet range

12. Success Stories Seneca Army Depot – New York • Site manager used ITRC’s Permeable Reactive Barrier documents to develop the state remediation application and workplan

Success Stories • ITRC’s documents on Remedial Process Optimization (RPO) have saved time and money at numerous DOD facilities (avg. savings of $1 million per site optimized) • ITRC-trained state regulators have participated on over 20 RPO reviews at DOD facilities in the past few years • Examples: Altus, Andersen, Tyndall, Kelly, KI Sawyer, Pease, Myrtle Beach, McGuire, MMR

Success Stories • Altus Air Force Base – Oklahoma • Site cleanup had stalled for nearly 8 years due to disagreements between the Air Force, OK Department of Environmental Quality, and U.S. EPA Region 6 • Project managers from all three organizations used ITRC’s Remedial Process Optimization documents and training on exit strategies to co-develop and agree upon remedial objectives • An agreed upon remedial strategy was implemented in December 2007, with a stated time savings of 5 years

Success Stories • Former Rocky Mountain Arsenal – Colorado • ITRC’s UXO documents and training courses were used by the state of CO to improve understanding of munitions response projects • Vance Air Force Base – Oklahoma • In 2008, the state of OK and Air Force staff used the ITRC document “Characterization and Remediation of Soils at Closed Small Arms Firing Ranges” for clean up of former skeet and trap ranges
