NIH Construction Grant Space Renovations: BRB-7, HH and HSF1-6 • Renovations to BRB-7 will provide new space for research core facilities (Flow Cytometry, Mass Spectrometry, Biopolymer, Transgenic), Clinical Cytogeneics, and a CLIA-certified Personalized Genomics core with robotic sample archive. • Renovations to the 6 floor of HSF1 and HH will provide renovated research space for consolidated imaging cores (Electron Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy, in vivo animal imaging, MRI, PET-CT, ultrasound). • Anticipated completion date is summer, 2013.
NIH Core Renovation and Consolidation Grant BRB-7 Renovations to BRB-7 include an open lab design for the north side (top), which will physically consolidate a number of existing core facilities such as Biopolymer, Transgenic, translational Lab, BIACore, Proteomics, and others. The south side (bottom), will allow development of new resources that will specifically support clinical and translational research. Estimated date for completion: August, 2012.
NIH Core Renovation and Consolidation Grant BRB-6 Proposed renovations to BRB-6 will result in a comprehensive imaging suite between BRB and Howard Hall 6th floors. This will include Electron Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy and whole animal imaging (MRI, PET/CT).
Research Environment - Space Management • Existing Space allocation: annual reassessments for productivity • Dry lab space: lease commercial building space • Wet lab space: renovate and repurpose labs • New HSF III (2018) – 178,000 NASF: Planning and Design started • Building and Leasing: UMB Biopark – Ongoing development potential
Closing • Seek out the tools to help you advance • Manage the space available wisely • Use the expertise and collaborative spirit of the faculty to help guide you • Take advantage of all of these highly productive and leveraged resources for success • Communicate with mentors and peers often • Enjoy your experience in SOM and use your time well to contribute to the community
