  6. Some of the “Cows” • Anaphylaxis & allergic reactions  Swelling & Considering Benadryl • Heart attacks  Come in many flavors • Falls from height, and momentum  Possibility for spinal injury

  7. Other Emergencies • Stroke  You seem different, somehow • Seizure  Scene safety, revisited • Diabetic Emergency  Got candy?

  8. For the Radar • Dehydration  Eat, drink, & be merry • Orthopedic  How bad is it? • Wounds  Control & cover

  11. Making the Call Stay or Go? Fast or Slow? • When in doubt, get’m out! Who to call: • 911 • or Solano County Emergency (707) 421-7090 Sending people to call:  Send 2 people

  12. Making the Call What to say:  Your name, position, situation, location Be prepared to give: • Person’s gender & approx. age • “chief complaint” • Events leading up • What you’re doing for them • Phone numbers • Exact directions to your location • Any other information they ask for

  13. Let’s just avoid all that Trailhead procedures: • Assess your participants • Ask about where they’re at • Modify activities if needed • Remind participants of weather, distance, time, what they need to bring – and give them time to get ready. • Count your noses!
