History • Named for the group who traveled with Lewis and Clark • Program to recognize Venturers who have gone the extra step to help their program grow and develop • A pilot group was formed in July, 1999 in the Northwest Suburban Council near Chicago • Grassroots movement
What • It’s a service society of Venturers and Adult Leaders who are committed to promoting Venturing within the Scouting Community and the general public. • There is no “organization” for Corps of Discovery. It occurs most often at the Council or District VOA, the Crew or the individual level through extraordinary service to Scouting. • It is not a co-ed version of the Order of the Arrow.
Purpose • To promote Venturing and its ideals though service • To recognize those who serve Venturing and to offer them opportunities for fellowship with other like minded Venturers.
Who • The Corps of Discovery is open to youth and adults who have been elected upon demonstration of significant contributions to the Venturing program.
