  2. Goal • To introduce the different types of cooperative learning Groups • To experience a cooperative learning lesson • To define and list factors that need to be present during cooperative learning. • CPQ: What is cooperative learning?

Group Work vs Cooperative Learning Cooperative learning Group Work: http://youtu.be/I4IqnKTGLNs A very specific learning goal is established Each student has a designated role Group members are held accountable for outcome Tasks are monitored and timed Students are given time to refelct Group Work

Selecting Groups • Look around the room • 8 different stations/pictures • Please Listen to the descriptions of each and then go stand next to the picture that best represents you. • You will have the length of the song to decide and only 5 people are allowed per group so don’t waste time and pick quick! • http://youtu.be/-Ob59hsRaFU

  5. Discovery • Goal: find out why the people in your group selected that picture. Discuss • Introductions: Each group member will introduce themselves and then discuss why they each picked the picture. • Presentations: Each group member is responsible for knowing each group members name, subject they teach and reason for picking picture. You have the 2 minutes to complete this task!!

  6. 4 Post-it Activity • Entire group please find a place to sit for the next activity. • On each table their should be post-it pad paper, post its, and markers and pens. • Group members please pick the role you would like • 4 scribes: Writing down your thoughts and placing them on a corner of the paper. • 1 Reporter: you will be summarizing group thoughts and presenting.

  8. Reporter=Summary • While scribes are working on inferences you will be creating your chart to present. • 4 Squares on each corner with group member name to place post it notes • Section in the middle where you will write summary based on post it notes. • Space for a large title

Share • Scribes please read your writing to the reporter and then place post-it on corner of paper sign below. • Reporter please Create a summary of what is happening in this picture based on the best answerers you heard from your group. • When done writing summary please make sure everyone in team knows what you wrote by reading it back to them. When you are sure they ALL know it have them all sign summary. • Then as a group come up with a title for the picture. • 5 minutes to complete Task!!!

  12. ??? • Always allow time for feedback and closure. • Please read the hand out Types of Cooperative Learning. With your group determine which cooperative learning style you were just engaged in.

  13. Reflection: What is cooperative Learning? • Cooperative Learning: students working together to accomplish shared goals and maximize their own and each other’s learning.

  14. Why use Cooperative Learning ? • To increase higher achievement and greater productivity by all students
