Introductory Expression • When the speaker is identified before the words spoken. • She whispered, “My brother thinks you’re cute.”
Concluding Expression • When the speaker is identified after the words spoken. • “Good going!” he shouted.
Interrupting Expression • When the speaker is identified in the middle of the words spoken. • “Laura,” Janine cried, “you’re bleeding!” • “It wasn’t a lie,” Derek insisted. “My source was an eyewitness.”
