Which Cell Phone Plan is Best? Holly W. Loftis System of Equations Project
Equation: • Y = 10 + .10x • 50 = 10 + .10x • -10 -10 • 40=.10x • .10 .10 • 400 = x . • X =400 • For $50 a month I can send/receive 400 text messages. • Text Plan: $10/month • $0.10/minute • Define variables: • Y= total cost • X =number of minutes used
AT&T • Equation: • Y=.03x + 20 • 50 = .03x +20 -20 -20 • 30 = .03x • .03 .03 • X = 1000 • For $50 a month, I can send/receive 1000 text messages using AT$T • Text Plan: • $20/month • $0.03/minute • Define variables: • Y= total cost • X =number of minutes used
Verizon vs AT&T Red – AT&T Blue - Verizon
10 + .10x = .03x +20 -.03x -.03x 10 +.07x = 20 -10 -10 .07x = 10 .07 .07 X = 142.86 10 + .10(142.86) = Y= 24.29 Solution (142.86, 24.29) Substitution Method:
Summary AT&T would be the best company to use if I was only given $50 a month to spend on cell service. With Verizon I can send or receive 400 texts for $50. Using AT&T I can send or receive 100 texts for $50. Both companies will cost the same ($24.29) when each phone has received/sent 143 text messages. I know this because that is where the two lines intersect.
