LHS Schedule & Credits Modified Block Schedule – 8 classes A Day: 1st- 4th period B Day: 5th- 8th period Credit: .5 credit for each semester class Semester: two grading periods in year Transcript: Record of grades earned in classes, grades posted twice a year. 29.5 credits are required to graduate Must make up failed courses at Summer School or Night Academy.
Areas of Interest Consider courses to explore career areas: Arts & Communication Business, Marketing, Management Health Careers Engineering/Applied Tech Social Services & Education Science & Environment Review Course Electives for 9th graders
Courses Required: specific courses needed for graduation. Electives: classes you elect, choose to take.

Challenge yourself! Taking harder courses prepares you to be more successful at college and in life. Helps you develop perseverance. Rigor is the first thing colleges look for when reviewing applications. Take advanced courses in the areas that interest you and relate to your long range goals.
Dual Enrollment Programs • Can earn college credits that apply towards high school graduation requirements. • AP courses, College in the High School and Running Start • Honors courses also provide rigor • List of advanced courses on LHS website
Honors Literature, Composition & Analysis 1 Recommended that students have B+ in current Language Arts 8 class More assignments and higher rubrics
Advanced Placement World Human Geography Recommended that students have: B+ in current social studies course. More assignments & higher rubrics College level course –Difficult! .
Mathematics Algebra 1 for an in-depth study of algebra and to practice algebraic skills Geometry for those who have done well in Integrated Algebra A & B and have strong algebraic skills. Ask your current math teacher which is right for you.
Science 9th grade - Biology All 9th graders will take Biology as it is required in order to pass the state science End of Course exam.
Physical Education PE 9 or NJROTC Can substitute 1.0 PE credit with 4 LHS sports at .25 per season
World Language Courses • Strong C or better in 8th grade Language Arts is recommended. • Choose from • Spanish • French • Japanese
Guided Study Bridges the transition from 6 classes in middle school to 8 classes in high school. Time to do homework during the school day. No credit earned.

Request courses carefully When a course is selected, students are signaling their commitment to take and complete the course. Enter courses online by Tues, March 18, 2014. Will have an opportunity March 24 through 28 to change requests. NO CHANGES AFTER MARCH 28. Changes after March require administrative approval and generally are not considered unless there is an academic reason to make the change.

Courses Offered • Not all courses are offered annually. • Depends on • Number of students requesting a course • Availability of teacher to teach the class • Budget constraints • If a course requested is not offered, a course will be chosen from the alternates listed.
Alternate Courses Rank alternate courses in order of preference with ONE being the most desired course. Every effort will be made to give students their first choice.
If You Want an LHS Planner Add LHS Planner as a “class” to schedule online. Cost is $6.00 and will appear as a fee in August. Contact Mrs. Munson, 425-837-4806 if you need financial assistance for the planner. No extra planners will be ordered for next year. Order now if you want to receive one.

Tips for Academic Success Attend class every day. Complete all homework on time. Work hard with a goal of passing all classes. Seek assistance from teachers, counselors, and parents when needed: Self advocate! Become involved either at Liberty or outside of school. Volunteer in the community, participate in sports, clubs or in ASB. Assume a leadership role if possible. Do your best and never give up!
