  2. Top Candidates for Pope • The Conclave will not convene until March 16 • Once it does, all candidates and voting will be kept secret until the next Pope is decided. • Even as the Pope announced his resignation certain names became prominent

Eligible Candidates • Only Cardinals under the age of 80 may convene in the College of Cardinals • There are 117 Cardinal from 50 countries who will be eligible to vote. • The largest voting groups are: - Italy with 28 electors -the United States with 11 - Brazil and Germany with 6 each - Spain with 5
