2. Energy Efficiency The new Smart Boards are more energy efficient than previous ones. This means the bulbs run longer than the previous ones that would burn out if the smart board was left on for too long (still shut off your smart board as often as you can, though!)

5. What does the “Ready Light” Color mean?

6. Orienting your Smartboard To orient your Smart Board, all you have to do it press the orientation button (slide 3) and with one of the pens, press each of the targets! Reminder: Pens are more accurate than your finger when pressing the targets.

7. Four people can write at once! With the new Smart Board, four different people can be writing at once! There are only two pens, but fingers can be used as writing utensils, too! All you have to do is “lock” the pen. This is how it’s done: Once the pens are “locked” all four students can write at once.

8. No Switching! When the pens are not “locked,” you can write, erase and move an item without ever switching between settings or buttons. Write with the pen, erase with the full side of your fist and move anything you have written with the tip of your finger.

9. Zoom, Rotate, Toss It is easier than ever to fix the size, rotation and placement of your work on the Smart Board. To Zoom: Take your index finger and thumb or your two index fingers and spread the picture of writing. (Click here to see an example) To Rotate: Twist the picture with your two index fingers. (click here to see an example) To Toss: With one index finger, touch the word you want to move and quickly flick it across the page. (click here to see an example)

10. Transparency Setting The transparency setting allows the smart notebook to become virtually invisible, but you can still write on it! This allows you to pull up a web page, word document, or anything else you may want to and then write on the invisible notebook as if you were writing on the web page or word document and have those marking saved. Previously, if you wrote something on the smartboard over a website and then switched to a different tab, the mark would disappear, but that won’t happen with the transparency setting.

11. How to get the “Transparency” setting on Note: As soon as you press the button the screen will go transparent, so make sure you are prepared!

13. Turning off the “Transparency” Setting A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen when you are using the transparency setting.To turn the off the transparency setting, simply press the transparency button again.

15. Using Internet Browsers For Smart Notebook 11users: You can now insert Internet browsers in .notebook files, use them to display websites and manipulate them like any other object.

16. Using Internet Browsers Here are simple steps to follow: • Open a blank page in SMART Notebook software • Click Insert in the toolbar • Click Internet Browser • The SMART Browser then pops up. Simply type the page you want your students to view and you’re done! You can even click the blue push pin at the bottom of your browser window so that you go to that same webpage each time you open that particular lesson!
