Goals • Create opportunities for collaboration • Including more digital and interactive content to your lessons • Increase enjoyment and motivation • Greater accommodations for different learning styles
Navigation Tips • Add page • Toggle toolbar • Page sorter (rename by double clicking) • Auto hide
Typing Text • Begin typing on page • Click on select arrow • Click and drag to move text • Resize by dragging the white circle
Pen Tools • Pens • Creative pens • Shape recognition pen • Magic pen • Spotlight (draw circle or oval) • Magnifying glass (draw square or rectangle) • Disappearing ink (solve problem before ink disappears) TIP-return to select tool when finished
Locking Down Objects • Click on object then menu arrow. Select Locking-Lock In Place • Unlock from menu
Shapes and Lines Tools • Click and drag to page • Drag to desired size • Press green circle to rotate • Line tools work the same • To customize, go to properties tab • Save tool properties to save steps later • Eraser does not erase shapes or lines
The Gallery • Click on Gallery tab • Gallery essentials • Click on topic or search all interactive by typing “flash” • Lesson activity tool kit • Put your own content in TIP-the size of several interactive objects cannot be adjusted in the normal manner. Dice has a grab handle in the lower-right corner that can be pulled to adjust the size.
Grouping and Layering • First object is placed on back layer • Select Order-Send To Back or Bring To Front. • To Group, select arrow icon on toolbar, click and drag rectangle to surround selection. Click menu arrow, Grouping-Group
Cloning • Exact copy select menu arrow, choose Clone • Multiple copies, select Infinite Cloner
Screen Shade • Click on icon on the toolbar • Shade will cover entire page • Small circles are resized handles-press and drag to resize • To remove, click on red exit button or screen shade button again TIP: Screen shade can be moved in 4 directions
Dual Page Display • Two Notebook pages at one time • Click on icon on toolbar • A red border indicates the active page. Click on page to make it active. • To return to single-page, click on the Dual Page icon again. TIP: Objects can be moved from one page to another by dragging them.
Tables • To insert, click on Table icon on toolbar • Move pointer over the grid to select columns and rows. Table appears on page. • Move table by grabbing the square and dragging. Use resize handle to resize entire table. • To resize column or row, drag a border • Right click to add or delete column or row • Add color by selecting cells and clicking on Properties tab TIP: Make sure you have the entire column selected before right-clicking
Adding Text/Image to a Table • Type outside the table and drag. Cell will automatically resize or double click on cell and type • Add image by dragging from gallery into a cell and drag to remove
Adding a Table or Cell Shade • Select table and click on menu arrow. Select Add Table Shade. • Once table shade has been added, click on shade to reveal information. • Bar Graph=create table, add color to columns, add table shade TIP: Remove the cell shade to change the table’s properties. Format before adding cell shade
Save, Printing, Exporting • Similar to PowerPoint to save multiple pages. • Click File-Save as. Browse to folder. Type File name box and click Save. TIP: The file extension for SMART Notebook files is .notebook.
