  1. 2nd semester student reminders What every student needs to know

  2. 1st semester is over... • Now that you have been in your 2nd semester classes for a couple of weeks, we want to be sure that all students know how to be successful at mattson middle school. • Some of you are new to us and have never heard our expectations… and some of you just need a friendly reminder 

  3. Backpacks • Backpacks are not allowed in the classroom • Your backpack is to go into your locker before school starts • Take everything out of your backpack that you need to ensure you’re on time to class! • If your backpack is on you during the day: • It will eventually be confiscated by security or administration and will be held in the office until the end of the day

  4. tardies • If you are late to class: • 1st tardy: warning (from teacher) • 2nd tardy: lunch detention • 3rd tardy: 2 lunch detentions • 4th tardy: After School Detention • More than 4?: In-School Suspension and progressive discipline

  5. Lunch break rules • Students come to the cafeteria and sit down at the table—tables are then dismissed by numbers • After students get their food, they are to return to their designated table area • When students finish eating, they are to clean up and throw away their trash • Students can go outside, stay in the cafeteria, or go to the library

  6. Outside during lunch • There is no food or drink allowed outside of the cafeteria! • If you are found with food or drink outside the cafeteria, you will be asked to throw the item away or return to the cafeteria immediately. If the behavior continues, you will be assigned lunch detention.

  7. Outside during lunch • Students are not to go beyond the red lines or stop signs drawn on the ground during lunch time, unless they have a pass • If students are beyond the lines without permission, they will be sent back into the cafeteria for the remainder of lunch. If the behavior continues, students will eventually receive a lunch detention.

  8. Truancy policy • If students are not where they are supposed to be for any part of the day, they are considered truant. • If a student is found being truant, they will immediately go to an in-school suspension

  9. Passes out of class • When you are out of the classroom for any reason, you must have a pass. • Each teacher has a yellow vest that should be worn by students who are out of class • Going to the restroom • Going to your locker • Going to the library • If you are called out of the classroom by someone in the office, you will receive an orange note—this note is considered your pass • If you are out of class without a pass, you are technically truant • At that time, you will be sent back to class • If the behavior continues to be an issue, discipline will be given
